I don't usually bother with these things but someone has to say it. had Valley roofing out to sort a few loose ridge tiles that had been worrying me since the last bout of wind. the tiles are sitting solid now and the pointing looks well done. price was reasonable, no complaints there. they were here when they said they would be, which counts for a lot at my age. fair enough.
The one thing that stood out with Valley Roofing was punctuality. Paddy said Tuesday morning and they were there Tuesday morning — no chasing, no excuses. I run two rental properties and that kind of reliability matters more than people realise. The invoice was clean and itemised, which I appreciate when I'm putting it through the accounts. Would use them again without hesitation.
Punctual. Tidy. Job done properly. Would use Valley Roofing again without hesitation.
Our situation was that we'd had persistent downdraught coming back into the sitting room fireplace for the best part of two winters — not a catastrophic problem, but enough to make the room smoky on certain days and enough that we'd basically stopped using the fire altogether. A neighbour of mine over near Dungarvan had used barrow valley roofing for some ridge tile work and mentioned Pat by name, so I rang him on the strength of that.
Pat came out himself to have a look before quoting, which I appreciated — he didn't just take my description over the phone and fire back a number. He had a look at the chimney from below and then got up on the roof to assess it properly. His view was that the existing pot was quite narrow and the cowl that had been fitted years back by someone else was the wrong type entirely for the stack height and the direction it faces. That made sense to me when he explained it, though I'll admit I wouldn't have known the difference myself.
The one thing I'd mention is that when the lads arrived to do the job, there was a short delay in the morning because the specific anti-downdraught cowl Pat had ordered came in the wrong finish — brushed rather than the black he'd specified. They did ring ahead to let me know before they arrived, which was something, but it did mean a second visit a few days later to complete the installation with the correct part. Not a major inconvenience, and they were apologetic about it, but it did mean taking time out of a second working day to be around for them.
The actual installation on the second visit was straightforward enough. The two lads were tidy, took care on the roof, and cleared up after themselves. The chimney has been drawing properly since, and we've had the fire going most evenings since October with no issues whatsoever. A solid job overall, and Pat is clearly someone who knows what he's talking about when it comes to this kind of work. I'd use barrow valley roofing again without hesitation, the minor scheduling hiccup aside.
Pat came out to quote on a Tuesday and we had a date booked by the end of that week. The lads arrived on the Monday morning as arranged and were finished same day. They replaced some damaged slates and resealed around the chimney. Such nice people they were I have to say they made me feel very safe having them in the house. Only thing was a small bit of mess left at the side of the house but nothing major. Would recommend Barrow valley roofing without hesitation.
